Review: Mary Kay Translucent Loose Powder

Here's another loose powder review for you guys. Mary Kay sent me this product a few months ago together with the Mary Kay Finishing Spray (review to follow). After road testing it for a few weeks, I think it is time to write a review.

PRODUCT INFO:
Because it’s translucent, this powder is the perfect match for any skin tone – from very fair to dark. It sets foundation for a sheer, invisible finish and has light-diffusing properties designed to help soften the appearance of imperfections for a skin-perfecting look. The powder feels weightless, natural and velvety soft on skin and is suitable for all skin types, even for women with sensitive skin. The long-wearing formula keeps makeup looking fresh throughout the day, controlling unwanted shine while never looking chalky. Wear it over your favorite Mary Kay® liquid or cream foundation as a finishing touch or by itself for a naturally beautiful look.

PRICE: Php 800.00

NET WEIGHT: 11 grams

WHERE TO BUY: http://www.marykay.com.ph

SHADES: Available in only 1 shade.
PROS:
* fragrance-free
* powder is silky and finely milled
* on my NC20 skintone, the powder goes completely invisible and doesn't alter the shade of my BB cream/foundation.
* powder feels lightweight on the skin
* no-mess packaging; the twist-lock sifter prevents the powder from spilling, so it's safe to put it inside your kikay-kit for touch-ups.
*  compared to the Ben Nye Neutral Set which is matte, this one has micro-particles that blurs out pores and me a glowing effect that looks nice in person and on cameras.

CONS:
* not so good in oil control. I have oily-combination skin and t-zone starts to get oily after 3 hours.

TIPS:
* to avoid caking, use blotting sheets first to absorb excess oil before retouching with powder.
* for better oil control, you may use a sponge and gently "press" the powder on the oily areas of your face and follow with a fluffy brush to remove excess powder.
* if you have dry skin, always moisturize to avoid dry patches.

TOOLS:
I prefer to use my  Ecotools Kabuki brush to apply this product.

OVERALL:

If you remember my Spend vs. Save list, I have mentioned that this product is a cheaper alternative to the MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Loose powder (Php 1,950). Mary Kay Translucent Loose powder gives the same effect, it even has more content at a cheaper price tag.

Overall, I love this powder coz it brightens, blurs out slight imperfections and does a good job in setting my BB cream/liquid foundation, but how I wish it has excellent oil control.

WILL I REPURCHASE:
No, I still have a LOT of setting powders to finish.

Review: MAC Prep + Prime Beauty Balm Spf 35+

Product Info from MAC:
Prep + Prime Beauty Balm is lightly tinted in a nearly sheer beige tone to work on an array of complexions, it creamily re-texturizes the skin and then goes on to excel at being a face primer with high everyday UVA/UVB SPF 35 defense.

Octinoxate, Octisalate, Oxybenzone, Titanium dioxide

PRICE: Php 1,950.00 for 40 ml

SHADES:
Available in 9 shades. The lightest is Extra light while the darkest is Dark Deep.

PROS:
* has SPF 35 for face protection.
* non-sticky and lightweight when applied; easy to spread even without moisturiser.
* can be applied alone or under foundation (as primer).
* contains Vit E, wheat germ extract, cucumber and apple fruit extracts which is good for the skin.
* has caffeine to wake up the skin.
* When I was working at MAC, I always use this product on myself and on models when I do their makeup during MAC events. This product is good in oil control and makes foundation and powder last all day. Now you know the secret! hehe
* Prevents makeup from melting even if you sweat.
* no white cast on photos

CONS:
* does not cover pimple marks etc.
* expensive

TIPS:
* apply only a pea sized amount if you're going to use this as primer.
* to avoid buying the wrong shade, always test on the jawline and neck area.
* if you are not using a cleansing oil to remove makeup, use makeup remover wipes instead like Purederm or Celeteque to thoroughly remove makeup and to avoid clogging the pores.
* for light coverage you can set this with MAC Select Sheer pressed powder (my fave).
* for full coverage you can use this under MAC Studio Fix Powder foundation.

TOOLS:
I use my fingertips or MAC 191 flat foundation brush to apply this product.

OVERALL:
This product serves a primer, sunscreen and a light coverage foundation in one. If you are always in a hurry to apply makeup and have no time to retouch during the day, this product is for you.

The compact version is a hydrating beauty balm suited for dry to normal skintypes, while the tube version is for normal, combination or oily skin types due to its oil-controlling properties.

WILL I REPURCHASE:
Let's see after I finish all my face primers.
