Watermarking Photos

I remember Donnarence's post regarding the Importance of Watermarking Photos.

"What is a Watermark? - a pattern of bits inserted into a digital image, audio or video file that identifies the file's copyright information (author, rights, etc.) The name comes from the faintly visible watermarks imprinted on stationery that identify the manufacturer of the stationery. The purpose of digital watermarks is to provide copyright protection for intellectual property that's in digital format." - from Donnarence.

While I was browsing the net, I saw two sellers that used OUR photo in their online shop. Take a look for yourself.

In the 1st pic, she even placed her own watermark in OUR photo! My friend Joseph Ong took the pic (15 pc concealer palette) for Jessie Glova Cosmetics. I even acknowledged him in my product review of the said palette (see link below). And in the bottom pic, she even cropped my watermark!

Here's my original photo:

I placed the original watermark at the top portion of the photo, and I recently edited it and placed another watermark in the center.

EDIT (3/29/2010):
Already talked with the seller and she apologized in behalf of her friend who uploaded the photos. Matter is already settled =)

The 2nd seller, she's using OUR picture without placing proper credits.

To these sellers, PLEASE if you want to use MY/OUR photos please include a link to this blog. That's all! Do NOT claim it as your own coz its really rude & offensive.

mga tamad na sila to take their own pix Ms. Khymm. okay lang if they ask permission from you but by cropping out your watermark, it is considered STEALING tsk tsk tsk

@ Lady L - yes, stealing is the right word LOL.

there's a lot of them online, and it is difficult kc we took time and effort to take shots and they just easy grab and copy it...you're right, at least an acknowledgment or probably just leave the original watermark!

This happened to me before when I didn't watermark my photos. It was an online seller from another country that shipped internationally pa!!! Imagine that...as in nagulo ang mundo ko...war kami...to the point na she stalked me, my blogs and spread bad rumors about me when we didn't even know each other except that I was a previous customer who only said good things about her and her company. Sya pa galit when she was the one who stole MY photos. They even had the date stamp on the corner but she erased them and put her own watermarks on my photos. Ayun, she immediately stopped all international shipping (sa US na lang).
After that I started watermarking ALL my photos even the old ones I posted in my blog and I didn't put it just on the side but on the whole picture kahit na 1 liner lang as long as matakpan yun product and swatch with my watermark.

@ ghie - I don't know how to use powerpoint LOL. tinuruan naman kami nito ng HS pa ako hehe

@ askmewhats - you're right Nikki! tumpak..

Ghie said...

@Khymm LOL!

K said...

magandang watermark yung gitna tapos semitransparent para kahit anong gawin nila hindi matatanggal harhar

It's so pathetic that they would just steal your photos AND take credit for them! It's a good thing you spotted them. :)

i don't always watermark photos, but when i do swatches i make sure to watermark them. maybe i should transfer the watermark to the center.

im sorry that happened to you khymm. it's sad that intellectual rights aren't really a big deal in our country.

Miss Shopcoholic said...

UPDATE: i tried to contact them pero no response pa si seller 2. Si seller 1 naman she said she'll investigate pa! its obvious naman sa akin yun eh I emailed her the link of my post pa! GRRR..
